Beautiful picture, though. It's very sweet.
We do not know the details to the experiments;
Chase's early life was traumatizing and as a result, because the ~scientist~ were female, he is deathly afraid of females.
I assume that these experiments were for the bettering of nothing; it's likely the severing of his fingers was a punishment.
